Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all our Blog reaaders. We made this Christmas Tree in our classroom. As you can see it is a 2D Tree. All the baubles were cut out and coloured very carefully. Some people chose to make dotty ribbon, some made presents for under the tree and others made candles. We were delighted with the end product.

Poetry Session

On December 13th we had a visit from the poet, Jen Hadfield, who lives in Shetland. We read a few Scottish poems together and looked at pictures of wild life in Orkney. At the end, we had to complete a poem on a creature of our choice using a framework and all that we had been taught.

Fold Mountains

As part of our work on mountains, we carried out the following experiment. The hands on opposite sides of the table represented two different plates of the Earth's crust colliding with one another. As you can see wrinkes form in the same way as mountains form on the earth's surface.

African Drumming Lesson

On October 30th, P6 had the rare chance to learn some African drumming skills. Everyone, including the adults, were given a drum. Gradually the patterns of drum rhythm grew more complicated but we all focused well and it sounded together. Ross Sinclair and Kasey Garriock were selected to provide a background beat and they performed very well. Towards the end of the lesson, some of us were give the chance to do African dancing whilst the rest of the class played the drums.

Ramadan

Class 6 has been studying the Muslim festival of Ramadan. During this month many Muslims fast during daylight hours. At the end of Ramadan is the festival called Id-ul-Fitr when the people have a great feast, give presents and send cards. The patterns we coloured are like the ones used on their greetings cards. Here they are in our display in class.

Hockey Festival

On Friday 28th September, 11 pupils from our class and 3 from P7/6 went to Picky to take part in the Hockey Festival. There were schools from all over the Mainland and, after some training, we divided into teams for hockey games. The teams were formed by mixing members of all the schools. There was a good sporting atmosphere and we shook hands with our opponents after all our games. Here we are in the playground.

Respect

Every Friday Ann Clark comes into our class and we carry out various activities on the subject of respect. The hope is that we will respect adults and other children to a greater extent and that we will co-operate with people better. We are also examining stereotypes.

Tag Rugby

Here is Primary 6 practising skills in Tag Rugby. We do this every Friday afternoon outside at Picky. Because of the bad weather we sometimes have had to stay inside the school for this.
